Effective construction procurement must take into account the risks involved in the project – and there are some that can easily stop a project in its tracks.
Take Japanese Knotweed, for example. This highly invasive plant is destructive to land and property, and if present anywhere on site must be eradicated in a way that prevents future growth. It’s also subject to strict legislation on disposal off site.
Thankfully, problems like Fallopia japonica, and many others, can be dealt with very effectively if they are properly allowed for in the procurement process. As for the reward - that comes from keeping such risks firmly in their place.
