Landscape Architecture Commission to Showcase Damien Hirst’s Sculpture

Posted: 17 October 2022

ONE’s Landscape Architecture team is delighted to be appointed through O’Keefe Construction, to deliver Damien Hirst’s Demon with Bowl, to Greenwich peninsula.

The 18-metre-high sculpture, which is being proposed by Knight Dragon as part of the multi-billion-pound redevelopment of the area, is planned to be located next to the cable car giving travellers a unique view of this incredible artwork.

The Demon with Bowl is part of ‘Treasures of the Wreck of The Unbelievable’, a collection based around a fictional story of a shipwreck found off east Africa. It is the largest piece in the series and will join other of Hirst’s sculptures in Greenwich after being initially presented in Venice with a version also in Las Vegas.

Hirst describes the figure as an “ancient Mesopotamian demon”. They “were complex primaeval creatures that exhibited elements of the human, animal and divine,” he explains.

ONE has now been commissioned for RIBA Stages 4-7 of the landscape architecture element of the project to showcase the piece in Greenwich.

Mark Martin, Director of Landscape Architecture at ONE said: “As a company we pride ourselves on innovation and creativity. We are thrilled to be part of these exciting plans to bring this amazing sculpture by Damien Hirst to a place where it can inspire and be enjoyed by many.”

The project received planning consent in April 2022 and construction works are currently on site, with completion expected early 2023.
