Two Healthcare Awards in a fortnight for ONE

Posted: 4 November 2021

ONE Creative environments (ONE) was awarded the Best Carbon Reduction Initiative at the National Building Better Healthcare awards.

The prestigious awards, which took place at The Brewary in London on 3 November 2021, was a joint ceremony for 2020 and 2021 with last year’s event delayed due to COVID-19.

The awards celebrate projects that demonstrate a measurable positive impact on the overall experience of patients, staff and visitors within a healthcare environment.

ONE received the Best Carbon Reduction Initiative 2020 Award for the building services (MEP) solution for Tanworth Court: a highly sustainable 60-bed new build care home in Shirley that was commissioned by Solihull Metropolitan District Council.

With the client strongly focused on quality of care, sustainability and long-term investment to provide a low carbon energy efficient building, ONE’s Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) team explored all options and provided the best advice for long-term payback solutions to help protect front line services as well as the best solutions for future residents e.g. researching the DSDC Stirling University guides for dementia friendly lighting resulted in the use of circadian rhythm low energy LED lighting to mimic natural daylight patterns internally.

The result was a highly efficient building with an A rated EPC benefitting from a carbon reduction of 48.6 tonnes CO2/annum with payback periods for the Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP) and Photo Voltaic panels (PV) of 7 years which will significantly help the public purse. This award is hot on the heels of ONE winning Architectural Practice of the Year at Healthcare Estates two weeks ago (19 October 2021).

Matt Tebbatt, Managing Director of ONE, said: “We are very well established in the healthcare sector and are truly passionate about sustainability.”

“It is fantastic to win this award for a great project with Solihull Metropolitan District Council. As a multi-disciplinary design company we believe that sustainability should be central to the design process. Here all sustainable options were considered and the best possible solutions were put in place to benefit future residents, with payback periods that will help to protect front line services, and will help to inform future development.”

“Thank you for the recognition and congratulations to all finalists and winners.”

ONE has previously been recognised in a number of sustainability awards and has won:

The team also recently received Highly Commended for Sustainability for Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce’s 2021 Sustainability award.
