National Quarry Restoration Competition Win for One

Posted: 31 March 2016

One Creative Environments Ltd (One) are delighted to announce they have been awarded first prize for a national landscape design competition, organised by Worcestershire County Council. Receiving our award at The Hive Library in Worcester, Landscape Architect, Ruth Sears, said she was “absolutely thrilled for the team to win a national competition”.

Councillor Sheila Blagg, who organised the competition, had asked entrants to, “Be Brave, be imaginative, be innovative …. I’m sponsoring this competition with a view to shaking up the tired thinking that dominates quarry restoration to generate ideas that could be applied anywhere and if they could be used in Worcestershire, so much the better”.

The concept behind One’s winning design is the celebration of man’s interaction with the landscape. The quarry is the result of human advancement, something to be celebrated and remembered instead of hidden. The shapes and forms of the design mimic the landforms and processes that occur within the mineral quarry extraction process. Every quarry will be unique to its place just as every fingerprint is unique to each human. One sees their design as part of a series of destinations, each sharing the same DNA but with a slightly different fingerprint according to its location and setting.

Sheila Blagg, Councillor said: “the solution provided by the One landscape team was creative, inspiring and beautiful and one that the community all agreed exceptional and hoped would be delivered.”

Mark Martin, Director said: “I am personally delighted for the team and company as a whole. We want to be known as a world class company known for delivering joyful and inspirational environments. Winning competitions such as this sets us on the journey to achieve our vision.”
