Yew Tree Village

Barberry Droitwich Ltd employed ONE Creative environments (ONE) to act as landscape consultants over a period of 5 years, to support an outline application for a unique new village at Yew Tree Hill, Droitwich. ONE had to deliver an attractive, well designed environment which responded sensitively to the site and surroundings. Despite full officer approval, the scheme went to appeal and Ali Osborne-Brown from One acted as expert landscape witness at the public inquiry where planning approval was granted.

Project Overview

As a controversial development with an extensive appeal process, Yew Tree Village is a landmark project success for ONE. Providing expert witness knowledge on a complex and large proposal demonstrates the level of expertise and meticulous nature of design and assessment work required to overturn the appeal.

A landscape led masterplan supported the development of 500 homes, extra care village and significant green infrastructure. With many planning sensitivities and close proximity to a greenbelt area, ONE ensured a thorough landscape and place making approach to assess and visually demonstrate the effects of the development. Extensive consultation and relationship management with all parties ensured a cohesive project, to create a fully considered design for an integrated community to live, socialise and play.

Project Benefits

  • Expert witness specialism resulted in successful appeal decision –

Despite vast amount of public objection the detailed assessment, landscape led master plan and knowledge used to support the lengthy appeal gave the planning inspector the confidence the proposal provided a well designed community development.

  • Creating a supportive community for all generations -

ONE ensured that the environment and its community facilities provided a sustainable, attractive and sociable place to live. The addition of an extra care village allows a unique ‘life cycle opportunity’ for residents and was specifically planned to be directly connected to the village centre.
